A brief annotation
Liu Bei was a Chinese warrior and politician, the founder of the Shu Han state. In 221 he proclaimed himself emperor. He was succeeded by his son, Hou Zou.

Culturally, due to the popularity of the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei is widely regarded as an ideal, benevolent and humane ruler who cared for his people and chose good advisors for his government. His fictional counterpart in the novel was a salutary example of a ruler who upheld moral values such as loyalty and compassion. Historically, he was a brilliant politician and leader.
